Long Time Want List Denizen Found

This week I finally obtained a 1995-1996 Collector's Edge Ice Prism parallel.  It actually took some doing after I purchased it, as when I first received it the card had a big crease in the back.  Luckily, the seller actually had another (pretty miraculous after it took so long for me to find one), and after mailing back the creased card, he mailed me an uncreased version which I very much appreciated.  And here it is, uncreased, in all its glory:

There is also a weird serial numbering.  The first card was numbered 0650, and the above is number 0651.  I am not sure if these are serial numbered, or what they would be serial numbered to.  More investigation will be needed....

Over the past week I have received both cards I mentioned in the previous blog entry.  First, the 1996-97 Whalers' Kids Club

and the biggie, the 2006-07 Parkhurst Dual Signature Mike Liut / Kevin Dineen:

That dual autograph is a beaut'.

Mystery of the Hurricanes Team Sets, and White Whale Found!

First of, in the last blog I speculated that there may be more than one 1998-99 Hurricanes Team Issued card set.  It looks like I was right.  I just bought another team set that appears to be from that year.  I say "appears" because there is no date on the new set (the other "Storm Zone" set stated "1998 Team Card Series").  This set has "Highwood Properties" on the front and "Litho Industries" on the back.  Most of the cards of both sets have the same pictures.  For example, we have from the Storm Zone set

and from the Highwood Properties set

I seem to have most of the same players from both sets, but I think I'm missing some from both.

As for the second part of this entry, amazingly I was able to knock off two want list denizens in one day.  This is especially surprising since it has been close to half-a-year since I was able to do this since I bought the Storm Zone card.  (I think the one before that was the Blue Jackets Donato's team card).  The first was the 1996-97 Whalers Team Issue card.  I noticed that a Whaler seller on eBay was including the Geoff Sanderson from this set in one of their auctions for a Whaler team picture.  I asked her if she also had the Dineen from the set, and she had 4!  So she put up a BIN for $4 (delivered) which I pounced on.  This was quite a boon; I lost out on an autographed version of this same card weeks earlier that went for $35 (I think there are some other crazy Dineen collectors out there).  Needless to say, I was quite happy.

The other card was quite a shock.  It has been over a year since the 2006-07 Parkhurst set came out, and I had NEVER seen the Mike Liut / Kevin Dineen dual autograph card for sale.  And yet, when I woke up Wednesday morning, my saved "Liut Dineen autograph" search got its first hit.  I was stunned, but quickly regained myself to send the seller an offer.  He wanted more, and put up a BIN to his liking which a bit more.  After searching for the card for more than a year, I took the offer.  I can't wait to get it.  Although I don't think it is serial numbered, I think the print run was only to 25, which ties the card for the lowest print run of any Kevin Dineen card (the other card limited to so few copies is the 2000-01 Upper Deck UD Exclusives Tier 2, which has also so far eluded me).  I think this card is the new cornerstone of the Museum.

A New Card!

Welcome to the blog!  I figured this would be a good way to update what is new with the collection.

Today I finally had a new card to add to the collection!  It is:

1998-99 Hurricanes Team Issue #9

Now these cards aren't numbered, but from what I can tell Beckett.com just imposed its own numbering system matching the order of the numbers in the set.  Also, I received at 22 card set, some of which don't match up with the card stated at Beckett.  So perhaps the Canes had two team sets that year?  Buggered if I know.

I have another Canes team card on the way, one not listed at Beckett.com.  It's coming from Finland, so it may take a while.

Also, I incredibly missed out on the 1996-97 Hartford Whalers Bob's Team Set issue, also autographed for a whopping $35.73.  This really upset me, and the lost motivated me to get a sniping service so something like this won't happen again.  But hopefully another will come along.  Someday....
